Modern camaraderie?

New technology keeps becoming more and more real, and this is one of the most lifelike I have seen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAt0pexaYGE. This is the “Milo” character that has been created by Peter Molyneux and Lionhead Studios to use the Microsoft Kinect interface, where you don’t have a controller, you just let the TV watch you and it supposedly translates your actions and emotions. Really cool technology, but kind of weird to think about.

A couple of thoughts:

1) This seems like it might actually sell because it fills a need for friendship that is based on the user. There is a character who recognizes me and is interested in me. Interesting. Are we settling for fake relational fulfillment in other ways? What are healthy ways to meet those needs?

2) If you had a Milo following you around and watching you, what would he learn? What types of phrases and actions would he see? Are you living in such a way that observers around you (who are real people) see what you are living for?
